At the end of the session:
1. Participant will be able to understand basic principles to use of LEAN and CPI in the Rehabilitation setting
2. Participants will be able to identify how use of these principles can lead to measureable improvements in both the inpatient and outpatient therapy arenas
3. Participants will understand the power of visibility and directional alignment and how these are integrated within the LEAN principles
At Seattle Children’s, we have integrated the CPI methodology, through the use of LEAN principles as outlined in the Toyota Production System. In an era where cost containment is paramount, we must all look to how we can impact the bottom line and also keep our staff engaged still striving towards directional alignment. Frequently these can contradict each other. Through use of these methodologies and principles, we have been able to make measurable improvements in all the pillars of our quality system including Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety and Engagement.
Simplicity is at the heart of the TPS, breaking it down to the basics. This fits perfectly with the rehabilitation process. We all know about goals and can break those down to their simplest form, and yet when looking at the business aspect of the rehabilitation processes, our uniqueness frequently are sited as barriers. When breaking down this system to a simple form, the participants will be able to see how measurable improvements, iterative change, and visibility for directional alignment have impacted our program to engage all our staff in this process.
