On April 10th, Sesame Street introduced a new character, Julia. Julia has autism.
While there is a huge range of characteristics found in individuals who have autism, and this is certainly an incomplete picture, it is a great platform to start the conversation about disability and differences.
Children are becoming better educated on accepting differences that you can “see,” such as braces or wheelchairs or special equipment, but there is less education available about disabilities that you “can’t see.”
