Children with disabilities and chronic conditions are living longer, and there is increased interest in designing interventions that will help youth transition to adulthood. Key transitions include not only the move from paediatric to adult health care services but also gradual changes in social roles and activities, such as completing high school, leaving the family home, and working. These transitions can take multiple forms and trajectories. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation have a key role to play in helping youth to maximize their physical, social, and psychological potential throughout their lives.
Over the next two years, Physiotherapy Canada will be running a special series of articles considering transitions for youth with chronic conditions or disabilities and the implications for physiotherapy. Topics of interest include
* Empirical evaluation of transitions models, programs, and services
* Youth and family experiences of transitions
* Critical engagement with transition theory
* Analyses of transition policies
* Global perspectives on transitions
Physiotherapy Canada is currently seeking submissions related to these or other pertinent topics. Qualitative or quantitative empirical studies are preferred, but high-quality commentaries or reviews (e.g., scoping, systematic) will be considered.
Submissions are requested now and throughout 2014, for publication in 2014-2016.
