Preparing Your Team for Telehealth: Educating Pediatric Therapy Providers for Implementation of Telehealth in a Pandemic

On May 6th, 2020, IPRC hosted a webinar presented by members of the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Leadership Team who presented an overview of the implementation of their robust telehealth program for pediatric therapy services and lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic. This presentation was intended for all members of the pediatric therapy team.
One week following, IPRC hosted a 4-part follow up series for discipline specific information regarding telehealth practice.
Course Objectives:
- Review how a pediatric medical center utilized a One Team approach to establish telehealth operations at the onset of a Pandemic,
- Discuss models of clinical education, orientation and decision making used to establish telehealth operations,
- Discuss challenges and ongoing problems with the telehealth model in pediatric therapies.
Audience: This webinar is intended for all members of the pediatric rehabilitation team; follow up sessions are intended for clinicians of each identified discipline.

Session Objectives:
- Review SLP model of evidence-based practice (EBP) for provision of speech pathology services remotely,
- External scientific evidence
- Clinical expertise
- Client perspectives
- Discuss how these domains were applied/considered to quickly transition outpatient Speech Pathology at one large pediatric hospital institution to a telepractice model,
- Discuss management of 3 specific process-change challenges.

- Discuss how one pediatric hospital-based institution rapidly implemented sports and orthopedic and developmental PT outpatient telehealth services,
- Review EBP related to telehealth evaluations and treatment, provide examples of resources developed, staff education provided, and the team approach to implementation of telehealth services,
- Describe how to find additional resources for physical therapy telehealth practice to support practitioner adaptability and resilience,
- Discuss telehealth tips learned through provider experiences and share telehealth patient success stories.

- Consultation, Serial Assessment, Parent and patient education during admission and post-discharge
- Discuss quality improvement concepts and ways to support change related to neuropsychology and telehealth
