In the United States, anoxic and traumatic brain injuries impact more than 500,000 children annually. Of these children, a subset will experience severe injuries, resulting in disorders of consciousness (DoC). This session discusses the DoC Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Presenters from multiple rehabilitation disciplines discuss efforts for increased standardization of care, continuity/continuum of care, individualized components of the program, discharge planning, and follow-up care. This session draws from the 2018 practice guideline recommendations on DoC, the recent scoping review summarizing care for pediatric DoC patients, and presenters’ experience.
Presenters are from multiple rehabilitation disciplines of the Disorders of Consciousness Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
