IPRC Pediatric Bowel/Bladder Clinical Workgroup Members Take the National Stage

IPRC Members Carly Rosenthal and Abby Gilmore present at AOTA’s National Conference

In April 2025, IPRC members Carly Rosenthal, OTR/L (Nemours Children’s Health) and Abigail Gilmore, OTR/L (Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia); in collaboration with Diane Ulmer, OTR/L (Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals); co-presented at the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) Inspire 2025 Conference in Philadelphia, PA. Their presentation, titled Streamlining Success: Mastering Self-Catheterization with Occupational Therapy, highlighted the critical role Occupational Therapists play in guiding and supporting self-catheterization.

These clinicians connected through their work with the IPRC Best Practice Clinical Workgroup on Pediatric Bowel and Bladder Management where Diane leads as the workgroup chair. As seasoned professionals passionate about helping children and adolescents achieve greater independence and participation, they collaborated to submit and deliver this impactful presentation. During their session, they shared personal insights, clinical expertise, and encouraged fellow providers—especially those less familiar with neurogenic bladder management—to engage with and grow in this area of practice.

The presentation was well received with over 100 attendees. Many conference-goers stayed afterwards to ask questions and dive deeper into the content. The presenters shared tips and resources developed by the IPRC Clinical workgroup.

Kudos to Carly, Abby, and Diane for their dedication to closing the gap in education and clinical practice related to neurogenic bowel and bladder management. Way to go!
