IPRC Special Webcast: Advancing Children’s Healthcare 1/14/21

On January 14th, 2021, Aimee Ossman, Vice President of Policy Analysis and Implementation at Children’s Hospital Association and John Knapp, Director of Federal Legislative Affairs at Children’s Hospital Association presented Advancing Children’s Healthcare: A United States Legislative and Policy Update to share an update on current legislative happenings on Capitol Hill that impact children with special health needs.

Aimee is Vice President of Policy Analysis and Implementation at the Children’s Hospital Association, where she leads the Association’s policy analysis agenda, which supports children’s hospitals’ state and federal advocacy on Medicaid, CHIP and other policy issues.  This includes leading efforts to influence development and implementation of major health policies that impact children’s hospitals and their patients. 

Prior to joining CHA, Aimee held a variety of health policy positions inside and outside of government. She was a health insurance specialist with the Health Care Financing Administration (now Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), working on health care work incentives for employed people with disabilities. Aimee also worked for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau on a variety of children’s health issues. Additionally, she served as a health policy specialist with the National Conference of State Legislatures in Washington, D.C. Aimee holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Public Administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  

John Knapp is the Association’s Director of Federal Legislative Affairs for the Children’s Hospital Association. In his role, John provides senior leadership for the Association’s advocacy to advance the public policy needs of member hospitals at the federal level, with a focus on helping children’s hospitals fulfill their missions of clinical care, education, and research. John has more than 20 years of experience in federal health care policy.  

Prior to joining the Association, John worked for O’Neill, Athy & Casey, Congressional Consultants, and the Department of Veterans Affairs.  John is a graduate of Connecticut College and the University of Texas at Austin.  

At the end of the session, each participant will:

  • Gain an understanding of the federal health policy landscape, election returns, and where children’s health fits in.
  • Learn about opportunities and priority issues to improve children’s health and what potential barriers stand in the way,
  • Discuss current advocacy efforts for children’s health care.
