“Enhancing Wellness in a Complex Chronic Care Setting” was presented by Dr. Scott Schwantes on April 7th, 2016.
Dr. Schwantes is the Associate Medical Director of Pediatrics at Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul, Minnesota. In this role, he is the Medical Director for both the Primary Care Inpatient Medicine and Pediatric Pain and Palliative Care Programs. He is board certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine as well as in Pediatrics.
Dr. Schwantes received his Bachelors of Science in Physics & Astronomy and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin and then went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Wisconsin. His postdoctoral training included a residency in pediatrics, with a fellowship in pediatric critical care and training in medical acupuncture and business leadership.
Dr. Schwantes is actively involved in numerous professional organizations. He has been a member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine since 2010 and held various leadership positions on committees and pediatric special interest groups. He is currently co-chair of the Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition of Minnesota and is also a member of the Pediatric Palliative Care Research Network. Dr. Schwantes serves on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In addition to his physician responsibilities, Dr. Schwantes is also an assistant professor and fellowship supervisor at the University of Minnesota. He has published a myriad of articles and texts on pediatric pain and palliative care and is renown in his field.
