Getting the Words Out:  Using Biofeedback Intervention for Articulation Remediation

Darcy Leoni is the Clinical Coordinator of Speech Language Services at the Children’s Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. She has over 20 years of experience providing speech language services in a variety of treatment settings with her primary focus area in outpatient pediatric rehabilitation.

Mrs. Leoni received her Bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology from West Virginia University in 1993 and her Masters in Speech Language Pathology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1995.  She holds her teaching certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, has advanced training in Vital Stim, and is certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association.

At the end of the session, each participant will:

• Identify traditional articulation treatment, tools, and methods
• Understand the SmartPalate system and the theory for use
• Recognize clients that may benefit from the use of biofeedback for articulation intervention
• Identify the benefits and limitations to using biofeedback methods
• Witness a step by step demonstration of set up and treatment using this tool
• Identify data collection options with biofeedback intervention
• Possess knowledge of the care and maintenance of the SmartPalate product
• Know who to contact to get started with your own system
