A Vision for Better Pediatric Care

Nearly a decade ago,  leaders from pediatric rehabilitation programs across the Mid-Atlantic region first met to determine how they could work together in order to improve the administration of their programs serving children with disabilities. Through these discussions, the group began to discover ways in which the needs of their own organizations could be addressed.  The value of networking, education, and resource sharing was quickly realized and the International Pediatric Rehabilitation Collaborative (IPRC) was created.

Word spread and organizations from across the continent and the globe have joined the Collaborative. We now have over 40 pediatric rehabilitation providers actively collaborating to provide the best care for their clients.  The IPRC is supported by the Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association (RCPA), an organization with provider collaboration at its core.

Working Together; Improving Together

The International Pediatric Rehabilitation Collaborative (IPRC)  has accomplished much through collaboration in regional, national, and international activities.  Many of our members participate at the committee level working on specific initiatives to improve the provision of pediatric rehabilitation care.

Education is a major component of the IPRC.  The group conducts educational webinars every other month to share pertinent information about current pediatric rehabilitation practices. The webinars are available free of charge for all members.

Networking: a great benefit of being a part of IPRC is access to a diverse network of pediatric rehabilitation providers. The IPRC holds regular networking call events and facilitates contact between members to promote sharing of best practices and problem solving.

Advocacy – making change on behalf of the group.  Every voice is important, and a multitude of voices is easily heard. The IPRC keeps abreast of member issues and needs.

Outcomes, benchmarking, and data collection has become a focus area for IPRC.  Through committee work, the IPRC is identifying and developing standardized processes to collect data and enable benchmarking.

We are Making Great Strides

• Collaborating with Uniform Data Systems (UDS) to make changes to the WeeFIM tool, including the revision of impairment strategies and current testing of new measures.
• Development of a web-based satisfaction and community participation survey tool. This is available for all member organizations.
• Conducting international networking opportunities for providers to share information about pediatric rehabilitation practices throughout the world.
• Hosting 6+ annual webinars on relevant industry related topics.
• Facilitating voluntary benchmarking initiatives and data sharing among member facilities.
• Compiling and disseminating clinical best practices on topics related to pediatric rehabilitation.

The International Pediatric Rehabilitation Collaborative promotes excellence in specialized pediatric care through the support and guidance of pediatric providers and provider organizations that are committed to best practices in pediatric rehabilitation.

IPRC Strategic Priorities (2020-21)

• Engage members in active participation and collaboration within the organization to assess, address, and meet their needs and IPRC wide initiatives.
• Share best practices and promote evidence-based pediatric rehabilitation treatment through education and networking.
• Identify best practices/practice models (clinical and operational) within the field of pediatric rehabilitation.
• Advocate for the measurement of outcomes for children with rehabilitative needs.
• Promote the application of evidenced based care via collaboration and translational research.

Members of the International Pediatric Rehabilitation Collaborative will:

• Represent a variety of professional backgrounds and practice environments across the continuum of pediatric rehabilitation care.
• Provide broad input and focused output toward a set of common goals.
• Contribute ideas and be valued as participants.
• Have affordable opportunities to connect easily with other providers.
• Give honest and timely feedback, and share knowledge with others in the community.
