Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation, publisher of the WeeFIM®, announced to the Pediatric Rehab Community the adoption of 8 expansion items in a bulletin released on June 26, 2017.
The WeeFIM bulletin read: “Following additional validity testing, UDSmr, in agreement with the IPRC Steering Committee, has adopted eight enhancement items to supplement WeeFIM® assessments. Strong evidence supports the validity and reliability of these WeeFIM® enhancement items. Although these items were created specifically with brain dysfunction patients in mind, they can be used for all impairments and provide additional sensitivity to the eighteen-item WeeFIM® instrument.
The WeeFIM® enhancement items have received a resounding endorsement from IPRC’s leadership, and the collection of these items has increased noticeably following March’s presentation on their validity. A collaborative effort with IPRC is underway to develop additional clinical resources for these items, and a training webinar is anticipated for late summer. We will provide more information as it becomes available.”
IPRC began work on this project in 2009 following a round table discussion with IPRC members identifying the desire to increase the sensitivity of the WeeFIM®. We look forward to continued collaboration with UDSmr in the coming months.
